The piece that I entered into this year's Eugene Mayor's Art Show won the Mayor's Choice Award, and was also purchased by a collector. The artwork entitled "Pioneer Couple" was done a few month's ago as part of a project to celebrate Oregon's Sesquicentennial (150 years of Statehood). The project, in a nutshell, was this.
A number of historic photographs were selected from the exquisite collection of pioneer photographs at the museum in Grants Pass, OR. Copies of the photographs were passed out to selected Oregon writers who wrote a piece responding to their particular photograph. A number of Oregon artists were invited to participate in the program by creating a visual piece that responded to the written piece. The artists did not see the photographs until the opening of the exhibit that placed the original photograph, the written piece and the visual piece side by side. A wonderful catalog was created by Rogue Community College.
"Pioneer Couple" is oil on photographs on paper. Giclee prints of the original are available for purchase.
"Man With Two Canes" was accepted into the Mayor's Art Show in Eugene in September, 2008. It is oil on photograph on hardboard. $700
